How your data is used.
The purchase website and desktop app serve different purposes. This page explains the data each one uses.
In the app
Measurements and reports are stored on the computer where the recorder is installed. Tests connect to configured destinations to measure responses, failures and timing. They do not record your screen or conversation content.
Exported files may include network addresses and system details. Review the contents before sharing a report with others.
Configuration history stores each interface's IPv4 and IPv6 DNS servers, interface status and metrics, and local routes to the app's probe IPs on the PC. This history does not collect adapter names or persistent identifiers, MAC addresses, or traffic content. In the copy for sharing, all addresses and interface indexes in this history are replaced with consistent numbers, preserving timestamps and changes.
Unlike the configuration history, traffic samples store on the PC, for each adapter, the name Windows shows, whether it is physical or virtual, its rates and how many packets had an error or were discarded. Adapter identifiers, such as the MAC address or GUID, are not recorded. In the copy for sharing, each adapter keeps only these fields.
With the “Suggest the app in the foreground” option, off by default, the shortcut saves with the incident only the file name of the program in the foreground, such as game.exe. The program's folder is not kept, and its window title, command line and connections are not read. The suggested name appears in the report and in the copy for sharing, and you correct or clear it in the incident details.
Once a day the app checks this website's update catalog. That check is counted server-side only as a daily total, to know how many copies are in use. None of your measurements leave your computer because of it.
In the browser extension
The Chrome, Edge and Firefox extension only runs on Twitch pages (twitch.tv) and its video servers (ttvnw.net and jtvnw.net). It reads the video player's buffer, position, state and frame counters, and records the start, duration, host, type, status and errors of media requests. Full addresses and their parameters are not recorded.
This data goes only to the Something Just Lagged app on the same computer, at 127.0.0.1. The extension sends nothing to this website or to third parties, does not read other websites, shows no advertising and does not sell data.
The connection code copied from the dashboard is kept in the extension's internal storage, out of reach of Twitch pages. Disconnecting erases the code and the event queue. While the app is not responding, the extension keeps only the last 12 seconds of events and discards the rest.
On the website
When you choose a language, the website saves your preference in a cookie for one year. Automatic removes that preference and uses your browser's languages.
The demo uses illustrative data and does not measure your connection. We do not add advertising or marketing trackers. Hosting may process technical data needed to serve and protect the website, such as IP addresses and access logs.
Audience is measured with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies or advertising profiles. We also keep daily totals of first-party events: checkout starts, installer downloads and update checks. These are aggregate counts — how many, never who.
When you purchase
Stripe collects and processes payment information on its own page. The website stores transaction identifiers, amount, currency, date and purchase status to provide downloads and handle refunds. The app does not receive card details.
To limit excessive checkout attempts, we temporarily use an identifier derived from the IP address. The raw address is not stored in this table, and records expire after ten minutes.
License and computers
Your purchase provides a license code that can activate up to two computers. To recover the code or manage slots, enter your purchase email. The response does not reveal whether that address has a purchase.
Starting the free trial sends the same computer identification hash used for license activation. It is used to grant the trial once per machine.
To limit how many free trials one connection starts, we keep for up to 14 days an identifier derived from the IP address, of the same kind used for the checkout limit. The raw address is not stored, and the record expires on its own at the end of that period.
After access is confirmed, the website creates a temporary cookie-protected session to show and free device slots. Freeing a slot does not remotely disable a copy that is already offline. It stops reserving that slot for future activations.
Your download link
Your purchase link lets you check payment and access its download. Keep it safe and avoid publishing it. If you lose your license code, use email recovery instead of sharing the link. The server verifies payment before granting access.
